Custom Wine Labels: Simplifying the Labeling Process

custom-wine-labelsWhen the celebration is in full swing, or as you sit in your favorite chair enjoying a book, it doesn’t take long to drink a glass of wine that has a silky body. But producing the drink that thrills your palate — and can have some potential health benefits, too — is a fine-tuned process that is often months — and even years in the case of some special vintages — in the making.

First, the right grapes are selected. Then, they are ripened to perfection, followed by a harvesting process that carefully plucks the fruit without releasing its juices. Finally, the grapes are pressed and fermented until they achieve the perfect bouquet that denotes the specific style. It’s a labor intensive process that relies on millennia of tradition and today’s cutting edge technology to bring us the most universal alcoholic beverage: wine.

After all the time, resources, and energy that wineries expend to create what many people consider to be grapes in their perfect form, wineries need an efficient way to get their product to market and in the hands of consumers while the beverage tastes perfect — something that doesn’t happen until wine bottles are labeled for presentation on the shelf. The labeling process may seem simple at first glance, but it is actually nearly as detailed as winemaking.

How a Labeling Provider Assists Wineries
For many wineries, the most important part of custom wine labels is creating the right design. On the label, you find everything you need to know about a wine: when it was created, the style of the drink, the imprint of the winery, and possibly some suggested food pairings. Then comes the science of creating labels and applying them to the bottle.

Because wine is a beverage whose salability relies heavily on product presentation, not enough care can be taken in how custom wine labels are designed and applied. Design involves more than graphics and artistic renderings; it also pertains to choosing the right label material, selecting the right label adhesive for storage conditions (e.g., chilled or room temperature), and picking a label size that aesthetically coheres with the size and color of the bottle.

In addition, while some wineries have their own design team and production line, wineries that don’t also need a way to transform their artistic vision for the label into print and apply it to the container. If your winery needs assistance with these tasks or any the ones listed above, Flexo-Graphics will help you create and apply the perfect custom wine labels for your well-loved libations. We do more than supply fine labels; we can also connect you with trusted label application providers and design companies that have demonstrated experience in wine label production.

We Know That Timeliness is Essential
In the wine bottling process, there is no room for production lags and unexpected hitches in bringing the product to market. Winemaking depends on the seasonal rhythm of grape ripening, harvesting, and fermenting to create a drink that delivers precisely the right taste. With this understanding, Flexo-Graphics will work with your winery to ensure that all of your labeling needs are addressed on the schedule you require to bring your carefully crafted wine to the public.

Wineries specialize in creating wine, and we specialize in developing best in class, custom wine labels. To learn more about how we can help you benefit from your dedication to the grape, please call us today at (262) 790-2740, or use the contact form on our website.

Craft Brew Labels: Applying Them Efficiently and Economically

applying-craft-beer-labelsCraft brewing starts with a passion for great pilsner, ale, porter, stout or other brew styles that appeal to the brewer’s palate. Often, the person or group behind starting a craft brewery spends years reading about the brewing process and sampling different brands and styles to refine their connoisseurship. After education and tasting are complete, the brewer often starts out producing private micro brews to help refine beverages that will eventually be sold commercially.

However, before a craft brewer is ready to stock store shelves with its products, several things must be done, including: buying or leasing a brewery location, purchasing brewing equipment, establishing a supply chain, and implementing a process for beverage bottling and labeling. Because craft breweries often start out with a conservative budget, these resources must be acquired economically and implemented quickly to start earning a return on investment (ROI).

Choosing a Craft Brew Labels Supplier

Product labeling is one of the final production phases before a brew goes to market, but it’s one of the most essential phases. Because customers aren’t familiar with the new product, the label often makes the first impression. This doesn’t mean you need to get fancy and use labels that feature gold leaf, paper made from special wood, and other expensive touches, but you do need a labeling solution that translates your label design into a crisp, clear image on the container.

This why many fledgling craft breweries turn to Flexo-Graphics for assistance with the labeling process. In addition to producing fabulous looking craft brew labels whose size, composition (i.e., label stock), and adhesive are perfect for a brewer’s requirements, we help the brewer implement the labels as inexpensively and efficiently as possible.

One example of how we do this is by using our digital print center to produce label designs digitally. Because digital printing can be done exceptionally fast compared to conventional printing methods, it’s ideal for getting products to market quickly, creating labels for short production runs (e.g., seasonal beer), and making quick changes to logo designs and other printed elements.

Concerning cost, you may have heard that digital printing is more expensive per label than other printing methods, which is often true. However, as Wikipedia notes, “[The cost] is usually offset by avoiding the cost of all the technical steps required to make printing plates.” Using a digital printing process can also save money, and so can having your craft brew labels printed on demand or, alternatively, ordering them in bulk to reduce cost per label.

Ready to Label Your Delicious Brews?

If so, we’re ready to supply you with labels for bottles and/or cans that make your libations stand out among the sea of others that are stocked in the same store aisle, and supply the labels on a basis that fits your budget. We have over 30 years of experience in producing custom labels that help beverage makers build a dedicated customer base and hit financial targets.

If getting the right product labels for your craft brews is standing in the way of moving the drinks into in the commercial supply chain, please contact us today to schedule a free consultation by calling (262) 790-2740, or use the contact form on our website. We look forward to providing you with the very best craft brew labels for your distinctive drinks at the best price.

Craft Beer Labels: Distinctive Labels for Distinctive Beers

Beer has been sold commercially for hundreds of years. Some of the longest running breweries on the British side of the Atlantic are centuries older than our Declaration of Independence. But regardless of where and how beer is sold, its main selling points are often advertised on labels that adorn the bottles or cans, such as: beer category, alcohol content and special ingredients. If you operate a brewery, dynamic product labels are your ally when it comes to making sales.

Beer Labels: Craft Vs. Conventional

Craft beer and conventional beer share several characteristics, particularly: the presence of hops and barley, the adherence to particular style of brew, and grain alcohol. One area where beer that’s crafted to create a highly unique beverage and beer that holds to the norm differ, though, is product labeling.

Conventional beer labels often feature a simple, traditional design that the brewer has used for decades, but craft beer labels are often created with a flair that reflects the distinctive character of the beverages they represent, beverages that push the beer envelop in a way that the average customer is unfamiliar with. For example, you can find a single pilsner beer in just about every major grocery store, but what about a triple pilsner beer, which essentially triples the ingredients of a single pilsner in a way that creates a delicious, unique taste?

That’s a beer you would get from a craft brewery — and when you see the product on the shelf, it typically features an aesthetically unique label that reflects the uncommon character of the beverage and the brewery itself. In short, craft beer labels are designed to help distinguish craft brews from the sea of conventional beers that also line the beer aisle.

So, from a sales and marketing perspective, a lot is riding on the design of craft beer labels. Consequently, it’s important for craft brewers to work with a provider of labeling solutions that understands their niche in the beer market and can translate their label designs into ready to apply labels that can be affixed to bottles or cans using an automated production line or, in the case of some exceptionally small batches of craft brew, applied manually. With our experience in providing labels for beer, Flexo-Graphics offers your brewery a full range of labeling capabilities.

Great Beer Deserves Great Labeling

Let’s say your craft brewery is ready to unveil a new, summer wheat ale that has a well-balanced, citrusy tang. You have the label design, but you need to print it on a label that has the right qualities for your creative vision and packaging, such as size, material, and label coating. You also need a way to have the labels produced on schedule to get your beer in stores quickly and maximize its shelf life. You may also need a third party to apply the labels, and a third party to help fine tune the label design in a way that makes it “pop” when seen on the shelf.

Flexo-Graphics can assist you with all of these tasks, including connecting you with label applicators and label designers that take care of all the minute production details, so you can focus on what you do best: creating fantastic craft beer that’s a drink of choice among discerning beer lovers. To get started on creating the great craft beer labels that your libations deserve, call us today at (262) 790-2740, or use the contact page on our website.

Why Label Personalization Will Not Go Away

label-personalizationIn the age of mass production, most products contain “general labels” that advertise a product in a specific manner that appeals to the target audience but don’t contain personalized messages for segments of the audience or a specific audience member. This type of labeling has been used for centuries. However, today, many companies that sell products are resorting to label personalization to help stimulate product sales among key demographics.

Why Label Personalization is Here to Stay
Label personalization, especially when a single unit of a product contains a personal name (e.g. Tom, Mary, Michael, etc.) seems to have both a built-in advantage and an inherent disadvantage. The person whose name appears on the product may be flattered enough to buy it, but what about people with a rare names such as Reese and Gregorio? Would they be quick to buy a bottle of soda that has someone else’s name printed on it?

Probably not; however, as you might guess, the strategy of applying personal labels to individual beverage units and other types of foodstuffs has been fine-tuned from a marketing perspective to feature only the most popular first names in the area of the product’s distribution.

Coca-Cola Provides an Example
Beverage World reports that, in developing its personal drink labels, “Coca-Cola is personalizing the sharing experience by swapping out some of its iconic logos on 20-ounce bottles for 250 of the nation’s most popular names among teens and millennials.”

For background, “The ‘Share a Coke’ program was first introduced in Australia in 2012. Since then, the company has helped people ‘Share a Coke’—and a little happiness—in more than 50 countries around the world, including New Zealand, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Great Britain, Turkey, Germany, Spain and Chile.”

Moreover, Coca-Cola’s name campaign is a production gimmick that is used to help associate soft drink users — particularly young ones — with one of the oldest, most ubiquitous soft drink brands on the planet. But, in terms of revenue, it an easy means of promoting something that’s quite serious to Coca-Cola: the expansion of its brand to newer, younger customer segments who could become lifetime customers. As long as the name campaign keeps achieving this result, don’t expect it to go away like a clever commercial suddenly disappears from prime time TV.

Following the Lead of Coca-Cola
Almost any consumer product can be emblazoned with a personal touch that appeals to the sense of self of the person. Mondelez, the Oreo cookie producer, launched shop.oreo.com this winter to allow end users to create custom packaging of their famous cookie. In terms of product quality, consumers know that a product bearing a personal touch doesn’t offer anything different than the same product that has standard packaging.

However, when customer demographics are broken down into psychographics, the strategy often shows great potential from a professional marketing standpoint — not just for “Big Boy”  products but for many other brands, as well. At this point, you may be wondering whether labeling personalization would work for some of your company’s products, too.

Marketing Meets Labeling Expertise
To arrive at the most educated answer, two measures are needed: marketing expertise that applies to your products and consultation with an experienced provider of product labeling solutions to identify the best type of personal label to usu. This is where Flexo-Graphics can help. We’ll work with you to use your company’s marketing knowledge to produce personal labels that help stimulate sales.

Personal product labels have proven successful for various companies in different industries. Based on this track record, labeling personalization will not go away — at least not until it becomes an unsustainable trend in terms of sales. To take advantage of the phenomenon while it’s still producing good results for manufacturers, contact Flexo-Graphics at (262) 790-2740, or

nutraceutical-labeling

Key Elements to Nutraceutical Labeling

nutraceutical-labelingCoined in 1989, the word nutraceutical is a portmanteau of the words “nutrition” and “pharmaceutical.” Although nutraceuticals include products as diverse as vitamin supplements and organic cereals, their composition immediately presents challenges for developing nutraceutical labeling that conforms to existing regulations and, moreover, meets customer expectations.

While there is no certain style of labeling that nutraceuticals must possess, there are certain types of information that should always be included on their labels, regardless of the product.

  1. FDA Warnings

In the U.S. market, if a nutraceutical product claims to remedy a health ailment, it should indicate that the FDA has not tested the veracity of the claim, if indeed this is the case. Users of nutraceuticals know that an FDA warning is often an empty requirement that has little to do with products to which it applies, but it is necessary to list the warning to inform consumers about their health and prevent sellers from legal fallout resulting from improper regulatory practice.

  1. Dosage Instructions

Nutraceuticals are designed to be more medicinally efficacious than many products that are bought off the shelf at pharmacies and health food stores. In addition to possessing nutritional qualities, the products may possess medicinal value in the form of pharmaceutical formulation.

Consequently, it is essential to label the products with dosage instructions to help prevent negative health outcomes that could result from taking too much or too little of the product.

  1. Efficacy of Product

Nutraceutical labeling is also essential for describing the efficacy of the product. In some cases, the efficacy of a product is communicated through easy to view messages that “pop out” on the product label. However, because the product generally has a complex formulation, it’s often necessary to explain exactly what the product is efficacious for treating, and why. A paragraph that provides this information can be skillfully printed in a prominent position on the label.

  1. Possible Interactions

Both standard health supplements (e.g., herbal supplements) and nutraceutical supplements have the potential to interact with medications and health supplements that the customer already takes. Consequently, labeling for both types of products should contain as much detailed information as possible about interactions with prescriptions and nutrition products.

In addition to helping protect the health of the customer, listing possible interactions helps protect the seller from injury suits and false advertising suits that call into question the appropriateness of label information. The seller should list an explanation of the benefits of a product, its intended use, and substance interaction warnings to legally protect itself against regulatory intervention that could temporarily halt the sale of the product until compliance is met.

  1. All Ingredients Listed

Some sellers of nutraceutical products take a lax approach to listing ingredients in the products. Part of the reason why is because the ingredients are generally not known to interact with medications or other supplements. However, this view doesn’t consider that some consumers are allergic to fillers in supplements and must avoid the fillers to maintain good health. This is why it’s essential to list all ingredients, even inactive ones that you think wouldn’t hurt a fly.

Need Nutraceutical Labeling?
The effective marketing of nutraceuticals begins with creating the right labels for the products, particularly labels that list dosage instructions, describe the efficacy of the product, list any potential interactions with supplements and prescription medications, and list all active and inactive ingredients to help consumers determine whether a nutraceutical product is a good long-term or short-term option for remedying their particular type of health ailment.

Don’t let ineffective labeling stand in the way of successfully bringing your nutraceutical products to market and enjoying steady sales, Contact Flexo-Graphics today at (262) 790-2740, or use the contact form on our website, to schedule a consultation. We’re here to provide you with the perfect nutraceutical labeling options, as well as options for any other products you may sell.

What Makes Label Companies Special?

customercenterThere are hundreds of label companies throughout the U.S. that specialize in providing everything from pharmacy labels for prescription bottles to labels that are applied to food products in supermarkets to warning labels on an engine. In this entry, we focus on providers of product labels, which are labels that are affixed to products to help motivate customers to make a purchase.

Like all types of businesses, not all label companies are the same. Some offer solutions that others don’t, but it’s the range of label options the companies offer that makes them “special”, as it were, to businesses that use the labels to sell goods and improve the bottom line. There are several things that could make a label company unique and highly valuable to its clients. Below are four crucial factors that can make a label company “special” compared to the competition.

  1. Mission Statement

What’s the mission? Is the mission, “To be the most customer-focused label convertor by always providing on-time deliveries of top quality, cost effective products?” Is the mission of the business focused on you?

  1. Ease of doing business

Does the label company make it easy to do business with them? Are their quotes straight forward, easy to understand? Are there excessive line charges? Or Extras? Do they confirm orders? Are major and minor details confirmed? Are proofs easy to understand? Is it easy to place an order? Is there a responsive team? Does the label company make you feel like you “set it and forget it?”

  1. Variety of Services

The best label companies can provide labels through a variety of services and materials that are perfect for certain applications. Can the label company provide by your primary labels and your thermal transfer carton labels? Doth they work with a variety of industry accepted material providers? Can they offer you digital and flexographic label print? Can they create a one stop shop for you?

  1. Stock Labels and Custom Labels

Does the label company offer you different buying options to fit your needs? Do they offer stocking programs, to warehouse your larger volume skus? Can you offer you print on demand for your smaller or short term skus? Are they creative in how you can benefit from both services?

How a Battery Retailer used Flexo-Graphics Digital Center

REMY BannerProblem:
In 2015, a long standing, reputable battery retailer began a branding change.  Working with a marketing agency, REMY Battery created a fresh new look to their store front, website, collateral, and mobile fleet.  They also wanted to extend this new branding to their battery products. The challenge was they wanted the labels on the battery to match the vertical market that the battery was intended for, but given the competitive nature of the battery industry, they needed to maintain current label costs in order to stay competitive.

Solution: Having a relationship with Flexo-Graphics, REMY Battery wanted to roll out the new brand look to their battery front and top labels. Their agency created artwork that was full color graphics designed to be a visual tool to match the battery to the vertical market it was intended for.  Flexo-Graphics then used their state of the art digital center to create press runs to combine the skus in the most efficient way possible to save costs and eliminate potential obsolescence. Furthermore, the digital center allowed REMY Battery to roll out brand new full color/ full graphics fronts and tops without traditional plate and set up fees. The labels were still printed on industry tested battery performance label materials, and prepped for future thermal date coding by the retailer.

Results: In just 6 days from the moment the art was digitally approved, the 13 new sku’s were printed, diecut and delivered to REMY Battery in time for the traditional fall rush for battery sales. The labels perfectly represented the vertical market with their full color graphics, and matched the newly branded collateral, signage, and vehicles.

Unique Products: How Print on Demand and Inventory Systems Synchronize

LifecylePrint on demand is a business process in which printed material, including product packaging like labels, are printed to order based on the customer’s request. Inventory systems management is a practice companies perform to manage inventory of customer specific stock products. Print on demand jobs and the management of stock inventory may seem to be at cross purposes, but they actually work together to benefit a wide variety of businesses in the following ways.

  1. Stock Inventory Programs offer peace of mind

Flexo-Graphics carries a large inventory of customer specific labels and packaging parts in its warehouse. The items are stocked, based on agreements with clients. Typically each product will have a maximum and minimum on-hand quantity to ensure product is available to ship within 24 hours. Clients rely on the inventory systems of Flexo-Graphics for a peace of mind knowing product is stored in a secure and climate controlled warehouse, and is available upon a click of a button.

  1. Stock Inventory Programs are perfect for mature products

History has shown us that inventory programs meet the needs of a broad array of customers, but generally best fit client’s with product lines that are at a mature market level. Products with a stable demand benefit by having Flexo-Graphics print larger and predictable quantities of the product, then storing in the warehouse for future release. Our online portal allows customers to see real-time data about product levels, and even place stock product orders.

  1. Print on Demand meets market need for label on seasonal or short term products.

When it comes to the product packaging and labeling, there are quite a few reasons why the same customer who needs utilizes an inventory program may also need a print on demand solution. One of the most common reasons is the need for short run season products, or event based products. Often times products are offered for a limited time, and thus do not require larger volumes of labels printed. Furthermore, marketers are becoming savvier by introducing products in response to an event or action, so time to market to essential and print on demand labels fit the bill.

  1. Print on Demand is ideal for beginning or end of life product cycles.

Initially, many organizations are unsure as to the market demand for their products. Print on demand labels are then a perfect fit for products coming to market. Print enough labels for the initial launch, and then migrate the label to a stock item as demand stabilizes. Furthermore, as a product is phased out of the market, companies are using print on demand labels to reduce the potential obsolesce of label as the product retires. Print only what you need; when you need it.

Need help with determining your inventory and print on demand solution?

Whether you need a stocking program or a print on demand to program, Flexo-Graphics can meet your needs. With a climate controlled warehouse that is internet accessible 24 hours a day, to a state of the art digital center to print labels on demand, Flexo-Graphics is ideally positioned to help.

To learn how we can help you with your business-critical operations, please call us today at (262) 790-2740, or use the contact form on our website, to schedule a free consultation.

Short Run Custom Labels: What Are Your Customization Options?

Short run custom labels are short run labels that are tailored to meet the customer’s unique labeling requirements. If you think that you need short run custom labels, you would probably like to know about your options for acquiring labels that are customized just for you.

That’s what we focus on in this entry. As you evaluate your short run label needs, keep in mind that short run custom labels can be customized based on the four factors below, among others. To learn about additional factors, contact the label specialists at Flexo-Graphics.

  1. Size

Custom labels can be produced in almost any size. Some users require labels that are significantly larger than standard size labels that are typically for the application in question, while other users require labels that are considerably smaller than normal. If you have the chance to reduce the size of your labels without making them less noticeable or hard to read, taking advantage of the opportunity can reduce long-term label supply costs for short run printing.

  1. Material

Custom labels are available in a variety of materials, from old-fashioned paper to recently developed synthetic materials. In addition to impacting the efficiency of the printing process, the material of short run labels can impact the general work environment.

For example, pharmacy clean rooms that must maintain a low level of particulate matter would be best served by using a synthetic material that emits no particulates, as opposed to paper labels that readily emit particulate matter. Label material is also an important consideration in terms of the conditions under which labeled products will stored (moisture, temperature, airborne contaminants, etc.)

  1. Adhesive

Short run labels can also be customized in terms of adhesive. Adhesive options include: pressure sensitive adhesive whose bonding strength is determined by the pressure with which the label is applied, temporary adhesive that allows labels to be peeled away easily, permanent adhesive that makes labels exceptionally hard to remove, and adhesive that is designed for low temperature conditions, such as cryogenic storage.

  1. Aesthetics

Short run labels are also customized with aesthetics in mind. For example, the scale and detail of your company logo may require a specially designed label that makes the logo cohere with other visual elements on the label. Color coding is another important customization option. Color coding labels based on their type of application can make it easier to reference information on the labels. Furthermore, short run labels can be derived from databases to custom many elements of the design: Text, images, and overall color schemes.

Short Run Flexible Packaging: Is It Right for Your Product?

Short-run-flexible-packagingShort run flexible packaging is non-rigid packaging that can be contorted without impacting the integrity of the package and is used for short production runs of the product in the package. Products that are commonly placed in this type of packaging include: foodstuffs such as beef jerky and string cheese, single use chemical tablets such as dishwasher tablets and toilet cleaner tablets, and single serve drink products such as ground coffee and lemonade powder.

Benefits of Short Run Flexible Packaging
The overall value of short run flexible packaging depends on the unique needs of the seller, but the packaging also offers four benefits that broadly apply to our target audience: products brought to market faster, ideal for low shelf life products, great performance under tough conditions, and less wasted packaging and rework. Below, we take a brief look at each benefit.

Products Brought to Market Faster
Short production runs are ideal for at least three types of products: products that have a short shelf life, products that are only available for a short period of time, and products that must be brought to market as quickly as possible to help the seller maintain a sharp competitive edge.

Ideal for Low Shelf Life Foodstuffs
Short production runs are ideal for low shelf life foodstuffs, and so is flexible packaging. When it is used to create an airtight seal around the product in a sterile environment, it helps preserve the product’s freshness by preventing evaporation and the spread of bacteria that degrade food.

Performs Well Under Tough Conditions
Another benefit of flexible packaging is that it performs well under difficult conditions. For example, if freight units overturn in the freight compartment and collapses during the shipping process, it is highly unlikely that flexible packaging will be damaged by the falling freight.

Less Wasted Packaging and Rework
The flexibility of flexible packaging makes it highly resistant to difficult conditions that could damage rigid packaging. This benefit leads to two additional corollary benefits: Less waste packaging is produced, which reduces the need for replacement products and packaging.

Looking for Short Run Flexible Packaging?
Short run flexible packaging helps companies save money and earn revenue simultaneously. This gives the packaging an exceptionally high cost to benefit ratio, which partly accounts for its expanding use in various industries. If your company needs short run flexible packaging, you have come to the right place. Flexo-Graphics supplies high-grade flexible packaging that is digitally printed to offer a variety of important advantages, in addition to the ones above.

  • Flawless graphics and text
  • Great control over production runs
  • Simplified SKU management
  • Low waste package manufacturing

With over 30 years in the industry, we have the experience and expertise to help you enjoy the full range of benefits that short run flexible packaging offers. To place an order or inquire about our services, please call us at (262) 790-2740, or fill out the contact form on our website. We look forward to providing you with the best short run flexible packaging solution for your needs!

Using Coupon Labels to Create Point of Sale Action: Tips for Success

coupon-labelsThere was a time when practically all coupon labels were cut from coupon sheets that arrive in the mail or coupon sheets that sellers distribute from a newspaper stand in store. These methods of disseminating coupon labels are still widely used. However, they pose at least two disadvantages compared to coupons that are placed directly on the product: They require more effort from the customer, which means they can delay the purchase of the discounted item.

Using Coupon Labels Successfully

Maximizing the sales value of coupon labels begins with attaching them directly to product packaging, but there are also some additional strategies that impact the efficacy of the labels. Before you finalize a design and distribution plan for your coupon labels, be sure to consider the following four tips. They can help your company receive the most value from a coupon label.

  1. Make Labels Highly Visible

In terms of branding, it’s a good idea to use labels that match your business’ product packaging colors. However, a label shouldn’t seem like a chameleon that hides on the front of the package. There are several ways to make coupon labels highly visible without detracting from standard     packaging colors, such as outlining the coupon in a bold color and giving it reflective backing.

  1. Avoid High Discount Margins

From a marketing perspective, it’s important to use a discount that reduces cost without calling the quality of the product into question. Because the highest discounts often apply to products that are obsolete in some way (e.g., out of season, almost expired, low-quality, etc.), apply a reasonable discount margin that doesn’t imply your product is worth less than competing ones.

  1. Make Labels Easy to Remove

Coupon labels must stay firmly in place while products are packaged and distributed to stores, but they must also be easy for customers to remove. This is where working with an experienced supplier of product labeling solutions can help. For example, Flexo-Graphics can create labels whose adhesive prevents accidental coupon removal but still makes coupons easy to peel off.

  1. Include a Call-To-Action Message

Most adult consumers know how to use coupons. However, because coupons that are distributed in store are traditionally used when customers next visit the store, it’s a good idea to use a simple call-to-action that clarifies how coupons should be used. Some examples of calls-to-action you could use are: “redeem at checkout”, “use today!”, and “present to cashier”.

Why Get Coupon Labels From Us?
If your company plans to implement coupon labels to stimulate point of sale purchases for discounted products, there are four main reasons to make us your label supplier: We have over 30 years of experience in providing labeling solutions, create labels that perform well under adverse conditions, produce coupon label solutions for businesses of all sizes, and use cutting edge digital printing technology to print labels that are as sharp and clear as the design proof.

Using Private Labels to Expand Product Offerings: An Overview

Private-LabelsPrivate labels are labels that a company uses to sell products that are made for it by another company, using its own brand and not the brand of the company that makes the product. For example, the pharmacy Walgreens may pay a manufacturer of over-the-counter (OTC) cough remedies to create a cough syrup that the pharmacy then sells under the Walgreens brand. Chances are that you have some private label products in your home or workplace right now.

Sales and Marketing Advantages
To consumers, the use of private labels can seem somewhat perplexing. Why would a company go through the process of branding another company’s product as its own, when it could instead sell the product under another company’s brand with less effort?

From a sales standpoint, the arrangement is typically implemented to produce a store brand product that has a better price point than name brand products that are practically identical to it. Consequently, the store brand tends to sell more units than a competing name brand, with the high volume of sales establishing the financial value of the lower price.

This is the utilitarian value of private labels from sales standpoint. When you analyze them from a marketing standpoint, you see why products that feature them are so attractive to sellers. Not including the fact that the products have better prices than big name brands, most sellers that use private labels do so to achieve one or more of the following marketing-related advantages.

  • Brand Loyalty — The seller can create a marketing identity around the product that promotes customer recognition and loyalty, which in turn promotes strong sales.
  • Tailored Specifications — The seller can use labels that feature its logo, the product’s name, the product’s description, etc. in a way that is ideal for appealing to buyers.
  • Better Control — The seller has excellent control over how the product is priced, marketed sold, and distributed, and thus has more control over the bottom line.
  • Product Exclusivity — The seller owns the brand and can develop it to make its products appear highly exclusive, then leverage this identity for marketing purposes.

Considering these advantages, what prevents some multi-brand retailers from developing a store brand? From a labeling and packaging standpoint, one of the greatest obstacles is that store brand lines result in a large volume of stock keeping units (sku’s) for the manufacturer to manage. But this obstacle can be circumnavigated when the seller works with an experienced provider of private labels and custom packaging solutions, such as Flexo-Graphics.

Are You Missing Important Elements in the Labeling of Products?

peel-and-stick-labelsThe manner in which products are labeled can have a significant impact on who buys them and how many units are sold in a given period of time. For many companies, one of the primary goals of implementing a new labeling technology is to faithfully translate the aesthetics of their brand to new packaging. This task can be achieved with the assistance of a labeling solutions provider such as Flexo-Graphics. We handle the following elements of product label creation:

  • R&D / Need assessment
  • Graphics management
  • Color management
  • Print management
  • Warehouse management
  • E-tools
  • Client Support

Now that you have found a provider of labeling services that can translate the qualities of your brand to new types of packaging, it’s time to look at some packaging options that could improve how your product looks on the shelf, improve how easy it is for consumers to access, and enhance the salability of the product is. Below, we take a brief look at each of these concerns in terms of labeling options. For additional information, please contact us today at (262) 790-2740.

Product Appearance
Product appearance is crucial to realizing sales targets in terms of how the company’s brand label appears on the product. As experienced offline and online marketers can tell you, having a multitude of different logo designs that differentiate in appearance can be a sales and marketing nightmare. In most cases, the brand of a company should be aesthetically cohesive across its full lineup of products. With our aesthetic focus on labels, we can help you achieve the goal.

Consumer Access
Product labels rarely make the products on which they are placed harder to access, but certain types of labels can make certain types of products easier to access. For example, bottles of over the counter (OTC) medicine often entail extensive dosing information that is best presented in a fold out label that can be refolded and applied to the bottle through the use of special adhesive that is easy to peel away and reapply. We can supply labels with this type of adhesive.

Product Salability
If you wish to discount products in a way that motivates consumers to make a purchase, sufficient attention must be drawn to the discount opportunity. One of the best ways to do this is to affix a coupon directly to the product — a coupon that can be peeled away and presented at the point of purchase to receive the discount. Flexo-Graphics has years of experience producing discount labels that are applied to the product to motivate consumers to make a purchase.

What are the Benefits of a PS Label?

label-productsA pressure sensitive label (PSL) is a label that contains a special adhesive that makes it adhere securely to the surface of a product when the proper amount of pressure is applied. PSLs are perhaps the most common types of labels found on consumer products today, and there are several reasons why. If your company or organization needs a new product labeling solution, PSLs should be high on its list of considerations for the following four reasons, among others.

  1. Conform to Unique Contours

When combined with a sufficiently strong adhesive, the thin, tough consistency of high-grade PSLs allows them to adhere to various types of package contours, from low-degree curves to high-degree angles. As every packaged product producer knows, the visual attractiveness of a product has more to do than with how it appears on the shelf. The package must also remain attractive after the product is purchased, and a well-executed PS label helps it to remain so.

  1. The Clear “No Label” Design Look

So-called “no label” PSLs feature a transparent design that often contains the name of the product and a few pieces of important, supporting information on an otherwise clear label. These types of labels tend to be common on cosmetics in order to help prospective customers observe the color of the cosmetic they might purchase. No label PSLs are a great option for products whose contents create a strong, visual appeal that is worth showcasing to buyers.

  1. Low Minimums To Start

Another great benefit to using a PS label is the low minimums and low start up costs. Press sensitive labels are using to use right “out of the box”, and don’t require the long setup times of gluing applications. PS labels can be applied easily by hand and easily through auto application machines.

  1. Performance Adhesives

Most PSLs come standard with high-performance adhesive that prevents them from slipping, wrinkling, bubbling, etc. while the product that contains the PS label is used or stored. Yet, there is also the option to have a performance adhesive specially formulated to address unusual conditions in the environments where labeled containers are used and stored. Such conditions may include unusual temperatures, unusual moisture levels, and fast evaporating solvents.

Order Your Labels Today
PSLs are used to label a broad array of business-to-consumer (B2C) products and business-to-business (B2B) products, such as pharmacy bottles, drink containers, food canisters, industrial solvents, ink reservoirs, and the list goes on. If your company or organization needs PSLs for some of the products that it sells or purchases, Flexo-Graphics will supply you with the quality labels that you expect to receive from a professional label supplier.

Flexographic Printing to Fit your Versatile Labeling Needs

flexographic-labelsFlexographic printing, also referred to as flexography (and Flexo printing), is a process used in the labeling industry. With this type of label printing, a flexible image plate is used to print designs on varying forms of substrate. It is the most common method used for label and packaging creation in the industry. One reason is the versatility this method provides, as the following are a few of the potential substrates:

  • Polyesters
  • Polypropylenes
  • Metallic Films
  • Paper
  • Synthetic stocks

Flexographic printing is ideal applications from pressure sensitive label to product inserts to folding cartons. Consumer product labels and durable warning and danger labels are often flexo printed. The print process involves four basic steps:

  1. Design Preparation
  2. Plate Creation
  3. Label Printing
  4. Finishing Processes

While this seems pretty straight forward, a lot of work goes into flexographic printing. Once the design is prepared, the plate needs to be created either by molding, laser etching, or exposure to ultra-violet light. It is then mounted or installed on a cylinder that is inserted into the press. As the substrate passes through the press, ink is applied to this plate through tiny cups, which hold the precise amount of ink to be deposited on the stock or substrate.

Flexography is used in large-scale production scenarios because it offers increased versatility and adaptability. Flexo printing presses allow for unique printing traits like two sided printing and laminating multiple substrates together to create booklet labels and instant rebate labels. Digital printing is an alternative option that has risen in popularity for short-run high-end graphic jobs, and suppliers who offer both, are positioned to fully execute any size label program. Currently flexography stills holds the number one spot for larger label printing count needs.

What Advantages Do You Gain?
Flexography basically took the place of letterpress technology since earlier forms had limited ink choices as well as stock possibilities. Flexography took the place of this method by provided benefits such as:

  • Fast Drying Times
  • Versatile Ink Selections
  • Abundant Stock Choices
  • Multiple Substrate Constructions
    • Booklet Labels
    • Peel and Reveal labels
  • High volume 1-10 color printing
  • Applicable for Porous & Non-Porous Surfaces
  • Generate Countless Images from one Plate

Flexographic printing has opened new doors when it comes to printing on various forms of stock or materials. The advance of high definition flexo plates, has taken the quality to the highest levels. The technology is capable of printing continuous patterns, does not require mid-job recalculations, and delivers the best durability for consumer products. At Flexo-Graphics, we offer both flexographic and digital printing services to ensure you get the perfect results. Our experienced team will help you choose the right method and materials for your specific needs.

Short Run Flexible Packaging: How Does It Help You Bring Products to Market Faster?

short-run-flexible-packagingFlexible packaging is more than a trend when it comes to marketing products. Bags, wraps, pouches, stick packs, and other items consist of this type of packaging, which is made from film, foil, or paper sheets. When these substrates are filled or sealed, they have a pliable shape. The form of packaging is frequently seen in the food industry as well as for some medical and consumer products. Short run flexible packaging is now being offered as an option for gaining lower counts in less time. Digital printing allows companies to move their products to market faster through shorter runs.

The growth of flexible packaging has primarily been due to economy changes and a direct need to have alternatives to typical rigid designs. It has been possible thanks to factors like technology changes, reduced materials consumption, and material advancements. While the printing process has been traditionally dominated by flexography, new technology options are making digital printing a plausible alternative for custom packaging.

How Can Digital Printing Help?
Flexography offers reliability, quality, and cost effective parts for larger flexible packaging runs. So, where do digital methods prevail when these obvious benefits are available? Digital printing for short run flexible packaging offers its own set of rewards. First, the choice produces the packaging faster with less time to market. This is because the computer software is able to automatically send artwork to digital print devices eliminating many of the traditional setup costs and the time to get files to press. In addition, digitally printing promotes these advantages:

  • Impeccable Creative and Print – The method provides increased consistency and vibrant colors. Digital presses have incredible color registration, with limited trapping requirements. Digital color palettes have grown substantially over the past decade, and producing color matches are done with ease. Furthermore digital print allows for database driven packaging with custom text, images, or codes on each unit.
  • Tackle Obsolescence– Especially with new products, digital workflow allows you to print lower quantity values without having the need to offset high fixed costs. Produce what you need, not what you need to cover high set up costs with other processes.
  • SKU Proliferation – Having the ability to produce short runs digitally delivers a chance to make sudden design changes at a low cost. More and more brands are making more variations of their products, and the digital workflow fits the bill for this trend.
  • Grean and Lean – Digital print methods allow companies, like Flexo-Graphics, to operation with significant lower waste in their manufacturing stream, which results in lower overall print costs. Furthermore, the ability to print lower quantities (cost effectively), reduces the need to warehouse products and cost and space associated with it.

These are just a few of the advantages offered by short run flexible packaging.

With a fight for consumer attention, consumer product companies are searching for ways to stand out quicker. At Flexo-Graphics, we offer both flexographic and digital printing services backed by over 30 years of experience. Our goal is to deliver a dependable range of branding, security, and identification options with to ensure you get the right features for a well-branded product.

Corporate Run: Team Members Reach Podium

multipeopleAlthough she was late getting to the event, that didn’t stop Mary McDonough from chasing down the field to reach the podium in the Milwaukee River Challenge 5K Run & Walk. Mary’s race literally started from her car, running to the start line to join the race already in process. By the time she reached the finished line, she had passed enough people to place second in her age group.

Mary was joined in the race by five more runners from Flexo-Graphics: Mike McDonough, John Witmer, Duncan Kostowicz, Jake Gould, and Tim McDonough.  John Witmer had the second fastest time in his Age Group, while Jake Gould was third in his age group. The event has become an annual gathering for Flexo-Graphics. In total, nearly 300 racers from Milwaukee area organizations participated  in the run. The event was held September 17th, in downtown Milwaukee near the historical Schlitz Park.

Variable Digital Labels Are a Highly Effective Approach to Promoting Your Products

BottlesDigital labels are becoming one of the most cost effective and fastest ways to move a visually appealing product to market. They allow for additional customization, have a short turnaround time, and do not require plates or other high cost application methods. Digital printing has been around for several years and is a reliable choice for branding your products. Now, a new variation of this option has become the next generation approach to merchandise branding, referred to as variable digital labels.

To put it in perspective, one example is the “Share a Coke” campaign featuring a unique labeling on the bottles with a printed name. Another is the recent Bud Light campaign where every label had its own unique design. The marketing approach is very appealing to customers, as it catches their interest. Variable digital labels are also used frequently to promote security because they provide the option to place unique barcodes on every product as well as images or text.

How Are They Used?
As a fairly new option, variable digital labels provide several opportunities to businesses of all sizes. Since the information is derived from a database, every design may be unique and tailored to have increased customer appeal. Additionally, it provides consumers the chance to add their own personalized labels to your product. For example, Heinz allows their customers to order a bottle of ketchup with a custom label consisting of three lines of black text. Other examples include:

  • Placing Unique Product Stories on Every Item
  • Using a Different Image on Every Product
  • Creating Private Business Consumer Labels
  • Using Quotations for Products
  • Tailoring Products to Customers with Names, etc.
  • Accomplishing Seasonal Promotions

The possibilities are truly endless with variable digital labels because all they require is a design and database. A variety of information may be printed quickly with the highest possible quality.

Why Are Variable Designs Rising in Popularity?
Variable digital labels offer companies the ability to make their products unique and help them stand out. They have been used to launch entire campaigns because consumers want to see each design. This advanced form of digital printing is a great option for fast market entry, as it provide these specific benefits:

  • Quick Turnaround
  • Complete Design Customization
  • Personalized Options
  • No Plate Costs
  • Easy Sample Printing
  • Suitable for Short Runs
  • Supports Last-Minute Design Changes

As opposed to traditional methods where plates are used to print the design, variable digital labels deliver companies the chance to quickly print higher quality labels at a lower cost. The set up takes minimal time, is cost effective, and provides beautiful, eye-catching end results.

One of the largest benefits of variable digital labels is the quantity that may be printed. Companies now have the option to break up the minimum short run count to create several versions for multiple or single products. This new option makes it possible for companies to quickly gain what is needed and with varying designs. At Flexo-Graphics, we specialize in this new, exciting form of digital printing. We will help you gain the quality and personalization needed to ensure your latest products or innovative campaign is a success!

0 to 70 skus in 180 days

When a manufacturer and distributor of a retail product came to Flexo-Graphics in the fall of 2014, they were looking for ideas how to effectively tackle a private line market group segment. They saw the potential for many of their resellers to sell their own private line products but were challenged with some the design and cost challenges with launching dozens of skus.

web shoot

Working with the manufacturer, Flexo-graphics leveraged their new digital center and helped the manufacturer tap directly into this target market. Together they created multi-sku run programs for quantities as small as 250 labels. The program solved the key challenges of bringing the private line programs to market:

  • Quantities as low as 250 per item
  • Production quality finishing for automated roll application
  • Repeatable pricing programs for easy and predictable cost on re-orders
  • Labels delivered in less than 2 weeks from receipt of art.
  • Multiple skus (and multiple different reseller’s Skus) across the same press run

The program was then developed further by the manufacturer, who created key sizes and templates began, as well as, an outbound marketing program to launch the new label program. Within the first 6 months of production over 70 different private line labels were produced, helping offset the manufacturers major brand slow season.

So, do you have private line markets you need low cost, high quality , and quick entry. Call us at 262-790-2740. We can help!
